Pipe Fiends - A Visual Overdose of Canada's Most Infamous Skate Spot

The 1976 Olympics left Montreal with the Big O stadium, a huge bill to pay, and a mystical concrete tunnel known as the Pipe—a blessing to all skateboarders.

Pipe Fiends is about a legendary skate spot at Montreal's Olympic stadium. Who would have imagined the concrete tunnel leading to the Big O's outdoor track and field area would become a temple for Montreal's heart-filled skaters, and a canvas for writers, bombers, and especially chicken-scratch toys? The Pipe's destiny was inevitable. The proof is in the movement. One of the flukiest things in the history of skateboarding, the Pipe has amazed and uplifted thousands of skaters to this day. It has been in tons of magazines and videos, and many skate crews have rolled through town and hit it in awe.

With eye-popping photography and artwork, mini-interviews and epic quotes, this book celebrates the Pipe's origins, history, and the locals who can't get enough of its energy—from their gatherings and camaraderie to their inspiring clean-up missions. Pipe Fiends features some of the most skilled tricks (and bails) that have been performed over the years by local legends and world-renowned skaters, and captivating testimonies from the crews that have called it home for decades give a firsthand view of the gnar things that have gone down on wooden toys.

2006 marks the Pipe's 30th anniversary—the perfect moment to honor this structure and the community it supports. Designed for artistic value with mass appeal, the Pipe has evolved from an abandoned natural phenomenon into a mecca for underground skaters of the world . . . One Love.

FUCK YOU TOO - Glen E. Friedman Extras + More Scrapbook

This book is unbelievable, if for nothing else, just for the sheer volume of Hardcore Punk, Hardcore Hip Hop legends, Hardcore Skateboarding (much Dogtown), and MORE, all in here. Friedman's previous book was much more selective, he says this is his "scrapbook" of leftovers but he's really downplaying it, it's much much more in several ways. This one contains a way larger cast of characters and is much more relaxed in it's presentation. I think it's cool for that. There's over 300 pictures in this 168 page book and it just looks amazing, so much energy comes off the pages. It's a perfect companion to FUCK YOU HEROES with this 2nd edition black cover.

Lots of amazing obscure PUNK shots, of the Bad Brains, Black Flag, Dead Kennedy's, Misfits, TSOL, Wierdos, Minutemen, Minor Threat, Husker Du, D.O.A., Social Distortion, Reagan Youth, Circle Jerks, the Make-Up, Suicidal Tendencies, Cramps, Big Boys, Ramones, GERMS, the
Faith, Necros, Descendents, Adolescents, Stimulators, Discharge, the Damned, Murphy's Law, UK Subs, Angelic Upstarts, S.S. Decontrol, 999, BuzzCocks, tons of Fugazi.

Classic incredible Hip-Hop shots of Run-DMC, Beastie Boys, LL Cool Jay, Ice-T, South Central Cartel, Busy Bee, Slick Rick, Doug E. Fresh, Ultra Magnetic MC's, KRS-1, Kurtis Blow, King Tee, PUBLIC ENEMY, A Tribe Called Quest, Fat Boys, Eric B.& Rakim, even U.T.F.O.!

The skate shots are of all the originators in DogTown (Tony Alva, Jay Adams, Shogo Kubo, Jim Muir, Paul Constantineau, and Stacy Peralta -Dogtown skate photos not in any of his other books - most notably of Jay Adams at the DogBowl.) Some great East Coast shots too, and classic early stuff of folks like Duane Peters, Steve Caballero, Lance Mountain, Gator, Blender, Ray "Bones", "Wally", "Playboy" Bobby Piercy, Steve Alba, Alan "Ollie" Gelfand, Tom Groholski, Mike McGill, Eddie Elgura, Christian Hosoi, and more.

You will be pleasantly surprised by this book. It packs a great punch of classic shots that you won't find by any other photographer anywhere.

Scarred for Life - Eleven Stories About Skateboarders
By Keith David Hamm

• 7-1/2" x 9" Paperback
• 240 pp
• 100 color and B/W photographs

Skateboarding is a means of transport, a pastime, a lifestyle, an artful expression, and an ethos. Some even call it a sport. But until now, the scene has lacked an appropriate(and accessible) tribute. Scarred for Life is an intimate, you-are-there look into the culture and history of skateboarding, as told through the voices and experiences of those who have dedicated their lives to riding a wooden plank with wheels. Eleven chapters take readers on a wild ride through the evolution(and revolution) of skateboarding, reaching as far back as the 1950s, and includes oral histories and terrain reports of the major styles and techniques as they emerged. One hundred dynamic photographs capture skaters doing what they do best in pools and pipes, on hills, ramps, streets, and skateparks. From the early proving grounds of California hills and pools to the chaotic streets of modern New York City, Scarred for Life offers street-level talk and eye-to-eye truth-telling about skateboarders, scars and all.
Keith David Hamm is a former news reporter for the Santa Barbara Independent and a freelance journalist whose work has appeared in the Los Angeles Times, as well as numerous skateboarding publications. An avid skateboarder for more than twenty years, he lives and skates in Los Angeles, California.
